Letter Carriers – Are you overburdened with what CPC expects you to carry?

November 28, 2007  -  09:00

Health and Safety / Bulletin

2005-2008/336

Letter Carriers are encouraged to use Appendix K of the urban collective agreement. This is an appendix which deals with problems carrying weight and relay stops. If you are overburdened, inform your supervisor, (take a union representative or witness with you) that you have an overburdening situation on your route. If you believe that the supervisor did not resolve your problem in a satisfactory manner, complete the form below and provide a copy to your CUPW representative and your supervisor. Keep a copy for your records.

on my route. Although the Corporation claims in Appendix K that they are committed to ensuring the health and safety of employees, upon reporting this situation to my supervisor, I believe that the issue was not addressed in a satisfactory manner. As stated in Appendix K, “A ‘one size fits all’ approach will not work, so we must find the right solution to each problem”. Therefore I am hereby requesting that the Local Joint Health and Safety Committee and/or Health and Safety Representative conduct the necessary investigation to determine if there is an overburdening situation. The possible solutions may involve changing the placement of relay boxes, additional relay boxes or additional authorized relay drops.

If an agreement cannot be reached or if Canada Post does not implement the decision of the Committee, I will be filing a grievance in order to resolve the issue.
