CUPW National President Deborah Bourque and 600-plus delegates attending CUPW’s National Convention will warn Canada Post not to try to impose a vision of a “Modern Post” office that is not shared by workers or the public.

“Canada Post is currently the second most dangerous place to work in the federal sector, negotiations have broken down with our lowest paid employees because Canada Post refuses to pay them for the hours they actually work, and the corporation can’t manage the labour crisis in Alberta,” said Bourque. “Yet without resolving these and many other existing problems, Canada Post plans to invest 1.9 million dollars to modernize the public post office with a leadership that flirts with deregulation.”

“We’ll be there to tell them that their vision of a ‘Modern Post’ needs to include workers’ rights and the needs of the communities we serve before it evens comes close to being a truly modern public post office,” said Bourque.
