On October 9, 2008, the First National Vice‑President, Gayle Bossenberry and National Director, Jeff
Callaghan, paid a visit to the Halifax Mail Processing Plant.
This was just one stop in an Atlantic tour to inform Members about the Strategic Review which is being
conducted by the Conservative government. Members, the majority being group two workers, met outside the CPC
building to listen to the Union Officers for what amounted to a maximum of ten minutes.
How does Canada Post react?
They handed out five day waived suspensions to 76 workers!! They have the audacity to claim that it was an
illegal work stoppage.
Members went back to work. The work was not disrupted. Is it possible that Canada Post does not believe
that workers are entitled to a break?
CPC Threatened by Buttons
Across the country, Canada Post felt threatened when our Members were wearing buttons “Your public
post office delivers…for now” on October 9 and 16:
Members are concerned about the possible deregulation of the public post office;
Members are concerned about improving service to the public – not reducing it;
Members work hard everyday and are the operational backbone of Canada Post.
How does Canada Post react?
They handed out suspensions!!
What is next? – We already know how Canada Post feels about workers. It was written very clearly in their
submission, or attack, to the Canada Post Corporation Strategic Review.
Sisters and Brothers, it is becoming obvious that Canada Post would rather declare war on the workers,
than to create a respectful, safe work environment.
Canada Post is setting the tone for 2011 and 2012!
We must stand together to ensure that the bullying and intimidation tactics being used by Moya Greene do
not stop us from standing together shoulder to shoulder on a day to day basis.
