CUPW Supports UPCE’s Fight for Fair Contract

For Immediate Release

Ottawa – Canadian Union of Postal Workers’ (CUPW) National President Denis Lemelin says his union is working out inter-union protocols with the Union of Postal Communications Employees (UPCE) ) that will be used should the UPCE set up picket lines in the weeks to come.

“CUPW has a long history with the same employer and completely understands how Canada Post tries to undermine its employees’ rights and benefits,” said Lemelin. “UPCE has the strongest strike mandate in their history. Clearly members are feeling used and abused. And all Canada Post wants to do is respond with rollbacks.”

In the past CUPW has worked out arrangements to support UPCE members on picket lines without putting CUPW members in harm’s way.
