CUPW Restructuring: Call For Recommendations And Ideas

February 1, 2009  -  09:00

CUPW / Bulletin

2008-2011/117

Brothers and Sisters:

Further to Brother Lemelin’s letter dated November 27 announcing the launch of the review of the CUPW structure, the Independent Working Group will be travelling to all CUPW regions across the country to meet with as many elected officers, union representatives and members as possible.

After getting your input, it is our hope to bring forward recommendations to your NEB that will help make CUPW stronger and better able to face the challenges ahead.

Call for individual recommendations

While we are committed to meeting as many as we can, it will obviously be impossible for our 3-person committee to meet individually with all CUPW members.

Therefore, in addition to our regional meetings, the Independent Working Group invites individual CUPW members and locals to submit their recommendations directly to us. We would like to hear your views on how to help the CUPW be:

  • more efficient in its operations;
  • more effective in organizing, negotiation and providing services to members;
  • more inclusive for its members; and
  • more strategic in the face of the changing nature of the industry.

The submissions may be from one or more individual members or from a local. Please keep submissions as succinct as possible. We recommend that they be no longer than 500 words.

Here are 4 ways to make your submissions:

  1. By mail at Independent Working Group, 377 Bank Street, Ottawa, ON K2P 1Y3;
  2. By e-mail at structure@cupw-sttp.org;
  3. By using the CUPW website menu link for “CUPW Structural Review”; or
  4. By fax at 613.563.7861.

Deadline for individual submissions:  July 1st, 2009

Solidarity,

Nycole Turmel, Coordinator
CUPW Structure Review Committee

Bev Burke, member
CUPW Structure Review Committee

Peter Larson, Ph.D., member,
