April 1, 2009  -  14:40

Human Rights / Bulletin

2008-2011/142

Do you:

  • promote dignity, respect and rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender  (LGBT)people
  • want to investigate the situation for LGBT workers across the world
  • commit to working in the future for human rights for LGBT people
  • identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender?

If you have answered yes, consider applying to be a CUPW representative to the World Outgames 2nd International Conference on LGBT Human Rights. You will join a delegation of activists led by the Canadian Labour Congress.

The conference will be held in Copenhagen Denmark from 27 - 29 July 2009.

The overall goal of the conference is to fight discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

About 1000 delegates from around the world are expected to participate in the 3-day conference, part of World Outgames in 2009.

There will be five plenary sessions featuring a number of internationally renowned keynote speakers and many workshops. CUPW representatives will be expected to attend Workers Out seminars. (http://www.copenhagen2009.org/Home/Conference.aspx.)

Unfortunately workshops will be in English only although there will be French and English interpretation for the plenaries.

CUPW will select two members to participate in this exciting event. CUPW will cover transportation, hotel, travel and loss of wage costs.

If you are interested please send a letter or an e-mail with the following information:

  • Name
  • Local
  • Statement from you affirming your identity as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and or transgender
  • Outline in 100 words or less why you wish to attend, what you would bring to the conference, and how you would bring back your experience
