Benefits / Bulletin

Bulletin no.: 2005-2005/008

I am pleased to announce that the union's benefit booklets are finished and will be distributed to all members soon.

Each booklet contains information about one of the plans and tells you how to make a claim, and who to contact for further information or assistance. We also talk about the common problems members have with their benefits and how to resolve them.

Here is a list of the booklets, along with who is eligible for the different plans.

Benefit booklet : Who is eligible for the benefit

Vision and Hearing Plan : Urban Postal Operations - regular (permanent) employees, Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers

Extended Health Care Plan : Urban Postal Operations - regular (permanent) employees

Dental Care Plan : Urban Postal Operations - regular (permanent) employees

Basic Life Insurance Plan and Paid Death Benefit (Canada Post) : Urban Postal Operations - regular (permanent) employees

Disability Insurance Plan : Urban Postal Operations - regular (permanent) employees

CUPW Life Insurance Plan : Members In Good Standing of CUPW (includes all members whose dues are up to date, no matter where they work)

You can download the booklets

You can download booklets from the union's website, http://www.cupw-sttp.org . The union's website also has the most commonly used forms, as well as links to useful sites such as the Canada Post drug plan.

Printed copies will be available soon

We are printing large quantities of the booklets. The print job will be finished sometime in July.

· Urban Postal Operations (regular employees)

The six booklets for members who are regular (permanent) employees in Urban Postal Operations will be sent in bulk to locals. Each set of booklets will be packaged with a covering letter and some forms.

· Rural and Suburban Mail Couriers

The two booklets for Rural and Suburban Mail Couriers will be mailed individually to members' homes, along with a covering letter and some forms.

· Private sector bargaining units

Members of private sector bargaining units are, like all CUPW members, covered by the union's life insurance plan. We will mail this booklet to members' homes, along with a covering letter.

· Urban Postal Operations (temporary employees)

Temporary workers in the urban group are, like all CUPW members, covered by the union's life insurance plan. We will send some of these booklets to each local.

Distribution will be a challenge in larger locals

The storage and distribution of the benefit kits will be a challenge, especially in larger locals. We will be contacting each local that will receive 200 or more urban benefit packages to discuss logistics.

Future distribution of benefit information

In future, new CUPW members will be mailed the benefit booklets that apply to them along with their membership card. As well, once temporary workers at Canada Post become permanent, they will be sent the set of booklets that applies to the urban group.

When will the booklets be mailed?

As soon as we have a firm schedule for the mailing of the booklets we will let you know.

In solidarity,

Denis Lemelin
2nd National Vice-President 1999-2008
