RÉSEAU HOMMES QUÉBEC - RHQ (QUEBEC MEN'S NETWORK)

Do you know the RHQ?

The RHQ is non-profit organization made up of self-directed assistance, sharing and reflection groups for men who are committed to exploring their male identity.
Since its foundation in 1992, the RHQ has already gathered several thousands of men from all over the province of Quebec. These men are from all walks of life. Most are married or in common-law relationships. Others are separated, divorced or single.

Half are between 40 and 49 years old and the other half are between 20 and 39 or over 50. Almost half of all these men are fathers.

The origins of the RHQ

Building on the experience of men's groups in British-Columbia, Guy Corneau, psychoanalyst and author of "Père manquant, fils manqué" and "L'amour en guerre," in conjunction with about twenty men with experience in self-development, founded a non-profit organization called the Réseau Hommes Québec.

What is a men's group?

It is a self-directed assistance group made up of about ten men. These men all feel the need to express their life experience, emotions and feelings. Facilitation is done among the participants themselves.

The RHQ provides each group with a starting guide and facilitation tools to help them in their efforts. Each group is self-sufficient, but maintains ties with the entire network.

RHQ's Mission

RHQ's mission is to offer a network of self-directed assistance groups and locations for sharing and reflection in an effort to help men improve their ability to be and act as men in an acceptable manner to them and their environment.

RHQ's Objectives

· To gather into a network Quebec men committed to exploring their identity, and to value the emergence of a true individual and social male conscience.

· To provide individuals undergoing self-exploration with an environment conducive to such individual growth;

· To promote the learning of means of expression to break the silence that surrounds men's emotional life;

· To become a vehicle for social cohesion and mutual assistance with a view to breaking male isolation;

· To challenge traditional male role models and enhance men's image;

· To promote equality between men and women.

Basic Rules of Operation

I speak using "I".

I keep the participants' identity and statements confidential.

I listen without interrupting the person speaking and I respect moments of silence.

I do not judge and do not give advice.

Why join an RHQ group?

To meet other men who are soul-searching and who share fears or dreams similar to yours.

To stop feeling lonely and isolated.

To feel welcomed and listened to; to talk about anything you want.

To experience the solidarity and strength of an RHQ group.

Joining RHQ

It costs $40.00 to join a group. This amount entitles you to receive the starting guide, the material and the facilitation tools as well as the RHQ information bulletin.
In addition, you become a member of a network of self-directed groups of men all over the province of Quebec. We also have fraternal ties with the men's networks of France, Switzerland and Belgium.

What the guys have to say:

BEAUCE: "Members of my group are the best friends I've had, even though I only see them at our meetings."

MATANE: "I think the best thing I got from this was to understand that I'm not the only one going through the things I've experienced."

MONTRÉAL: "Those close to me said I had both the questions and the answers; I learned to listen. My life is now a lot richer."

MONTÉRÉGIE: "I was able to stop seeing other men as competitors of whom I had to be suspicious."

ABITIBI: "I know myself better. What a gift!"

OUTAOUAIS: "The huge gathering of men was a fraternization experience I'll never forget."
