Operation Transparency / Blog

In response to a question posed by Christiane Gagnon, a Bloc Québeçois MP from Québec City, Lawrence Cannon, the Minister responsible for Canada Post, stated that:

The honourable member “is asking the question to discover what direction we are headed. It is already known and no secret to anyone in this House. Canada Post is affirming its independence from the government.”

“However, in the latest election campaign, we made a commitment on this side to review this decision. A decision in this respect will be imminent. I ask the honourable member to bide her time.”

Although Cannon indicated that a decision will be “imminent”, the third phase of the Québec closure will take place in about six weeks’ time.

Time is of the essence! We need members and locals to continue to meet with their members of Parliament to ensure that the Conservative government will force Canada Post to abandon their plan to close the Québec City mail processing plant and to declare a moratorium on future closures. We want to know what Canada Post’s plans are for our public postal service.
