Ottawa – “Reports of Canada Post documents circulating in Québec City between the Conservative Party and local police underscore the need for transparency at Canada Post,” said Deborah Bourque, National President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).

“We don’t know the contents of these documents,” added Bourque, “what we do know is that Canada Post has repeatedly denied our requests for the release of documents about the future of our public post office, including information about the decision to close the letter sorting facility at 300 Saint Paul in Québec City.”

“Postal workers and the public have been concerned with the recent direction of Canada Post,” continued Bourque “that’s why we launched our national campaign ‘Operation Transparency’. The campaign calls for a moratorium on plant and post office closures, the release of strategic planning documents; as well as a public debate on any plans to reduce, privatize or deregulate our public postal service.”
