Billy Hayes
General Secretary
Communications Workers Union
Dear Brother Hayes:
On behalf of the members of the National Executive Board and Regional Executive Committees of the Canadian
Union of Postal Workers, I wish to express our solidarity with yourself, Deputy General Secretary Ward and
the membership of the Communications Workers Union as you struggle for a just bargaining agreement with Royal
Mail.
The CUPW condemns the refusal of Royal Mail management to negotiate with the CWU. The solutions to the
problems of Royal Mail will not be found in strategies that involve cutting services, cutting jobs and
cutting pay.
It is obvious that only through good faith bargaining can the parties reach an agreement that recognizes
the vital role played by the workers of Royal Mail. Postal workers in the United Kingdom deserve improvements
in their pay, benefits and working conditions.
The Struggles of the Communications Workers Union have long been an inspiration for our union. We stand
with you in your efforts to obtain respect and justice for your membership.
In Solidarity,
Deborah Bourque,
National President
