During the last round of negotiations the Union negotiated a new type of paid leave for RSMC.
For CUPW, this type of paid leave is a precedent as this right does not exist in the urban unit’s
collective agreement.
Paid Personal Leave Days - Existing Employees
As of January 1st, 2009, all employees shall be entitled to two (2) days of paid personal leave
for each calendar year.
Paid Personal Leave Days - New Employees
A new employee hired on or before September 1st shall receive one (1) day of paid personal
leave in his or her year of hire.
An employee hired after September 1st shall not be entitled to paid personal leave days in that
calendar year.
For which reasons can I use my Paid Personal Leave Days?
You can use your paid personal leave days for any reason. You can use it for a dentist appointment, to
attend your child’s graduation ceremony, or you can attach it to your annual leave.
When Can I use my Paid Personal Leave Days?
You can use your paid personal leave days anytime except on a working day preceding or following a
designated holiday. This is the only restriction.
OCRE - Coverage of Paid Personal Leave Days, Not in Major Urban Centers, (MUC)
In postal installations where CPC has hired OCREs, if the OCRE is not covering an RSMC vacation leave, we
ask that you use the OCRE to cover your paid personal leave days, (MOA signed on December 20, 2006).
OCREs are employees and, as such, they receive an entitlement for vacation leave – 4% of actual wages, and
they also receive a payment for stat holidays – 4.4% of their pay minus vehicle expense.
OCRE - Coverage of Paid Personal Leave Days in Major Urban Centers
Following the last round of negotiations, in the MUC, the parties agreed as soon as possible but no later
than July 1st, 2009 to utilize OCRE to cover all types of leave recognized under the collective
agreement.
The list of these MUCs can be found under Appendix E, paragraph 5(a) and for the postal installations
refer to the bulletin of 2009-04-08 sent by the Union.
Replacements and Paid Personal Leave Days
All other RSMCs not in MUCs or not in an installation with OCREs have to follow Article 14 and provide a
qualified replacement.
What happens if I do not take my Paid Personal Leave Days?
First of all, the Union strongly encourages all RSMCs to take these two negotiated paid personal leave
days. If for some reason you do not use your personal leave days they shall be paid out at the end of the
calendar year and can not be carried over to the following calendar year.
