July 10, 2009 - 17:00 Free Trade / Letter Minister Stockwell Day Dear Mr. Day: I am writing to thank you for your letter dated May 1, 2009, in response to my letter dated March 25, 2009, which expresses a variety of concerns about how postal services may be affected by the negotiations of an economic agreement between Canada and the European Union (EU). While I was pleased to get your letter outlining the process for negotiations, I was hoping to get an understanding of your views on the matters the union raised in its letter. I am still interested in your views. I am also interested in knowing if postal services are part of the “established areas of negotiations” you refer to in your letter. We understand that the EU has identified postal services as one of its priority service sectors in these negotiations. CUPW would like assurances that our government has not agreed, and will not agree, to put postal services on the table. Thank you in advance for your response to this matter. Yours truly, Denis Lemelin
