In June 2009, the federal government introduced Bill C-44, an Act to amend the Canada Post Corporation
Act (virtually identical to Bill C-14). If approved, this bill would partially deregulate Canada Post by
removing international letters from Canada Post’s exclusive privilege to handle letters.
Bill C-44 is currently being debated in the House of Commons. The single most important action you can
take to help defeat Bill C-44 is to contact your member of Parliament (MP).
CUPW has produced a letter to MPs on Bill C-44 and a leaflet which explains Bill C-44 in the context of
the Canada Post Corporation Strategic Review.
