On Monday, October 4th, CUPW served Canada Post notice to bargain under Article 43 of the
Urban Operations collective agreement, which states:
“Either party to this agreement may, within four (4) months immediately
preceding the date of expiration of the term of this collective agreement, by notice, require the other party
to commence collective bargaining. Within twenty (20) working days after notice to bargain has been given,
the parties shall enter into negotiations.”
From now on, things will be revving up. We’ll have to keep a close eye on everything, get involved in the
bargaining process, and make it part of our everyday reality.
“My Program of Demands”
The Program of Demands comes from the membership. Each and every one of us needs to increasingly take
ownership of the Program. We are fighting for:
Job security
Expanding and improving postal services
Better wages and benefits
Increased protection against unjust discipline
Better human rights protection
Better health and safety protection
Privacy protection for our medical information
Improved staffing
Better work methods for letter carriers
The Next Step
The parties will now have to meet within the next 20 working days. The Negotiating Committee is now ready
and preparing our presentation to the employer.
Negotiations are on and we need to let everyone know, especially on the work floor. Each and every one of
us has to get involved and get ready to wage a fierce battle this fall.
ACT NOW!
The struggle continues.
In solidarity,
Denis Lemelin
National President and Chief Negotiator
