On November 25, Let’s Tell Canada Post That RSMCs and Urban Operations Postal Workers Deserve to Share The Benefits of Modern Post

November 10, 2010  -  14:20

Modern Post / Bulletin

2008-2011/335

We want RSMCs to have better job security and more relief. We want Urban Operations workers to have staffing, work methods, and health and safety issues addressed. We want to see improved wages and benefits for all.  On November 25, let’s show Canada Post what solidarity means.

Canada Post is Saving Money from Modern Post

Canada Post expects to save approximately $250 million per year as a result of Modern Post by cutting jobs and reducing service.

CUPW wants some of the productivity gains from Modern Post to be used to improve staffing and provide expanded services. This way, everyone ould benefit, including postal workers and the public.

Canada Post Has to Share the Benefits with RSMCs

CUPW is currently in interest arbitration to settle the 2010 RSMC Collective Agreement re-opener.  It is clear that CPC does not want to share the benefits with RSMCs.

CPC has to share the benefits by giving RSMCs access to the prescription drug plan.

Canada Post has to offer RSMCs full job security given the fact that new RSMC points of call are growing rapidly every year.

Canada Post Has to Share the Benefits with Urban Operations Bargaining Unit Workers

Canada Post has to share the benefits with temporary workers who get permanent positions by offering them the same rights and benefits that other regular employees are entitled to.

Canada Post has to maintain our injury-on-duty pay, given the sad fact that the rate of work injuries at Canada Post is already too high.

On November 25, We Need to Show Canada Post What Solidarity Together Means

CUPW has strong bargaining teams. But we need more than dedicated negotiators to obtain new Collective Agreements for RSMCs and Urban Operations workers.  Canada Post has to know that all CUPW members are prepared to fight for new Collective Agreements that respect our work, promote dignity and equality, and share the benefits of new technology.

Your Local will keep you informed about actions being planned in your community.

On November 25th, please join with CUPW members everywhere to tell Canada Post we want to share the benefits. Let’s show CPC that RSMCs and Urban Operations postal workers stand in solidarity together.

In solidarity,

Denis Lemelin
National President
