A “Green” Action to Give the Green Light to Canada Post’s Moya Greene

Media Advisory

How: First public action in “Operation Transparency” campaign
When: Friday, March 17, at 12:15 p.m.
Where: Mail Processing Plant, 300 St-Paul St., Quebec City
Who: National President and Officers of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and members whose jobs are at risk

Quebec City — On Friday, March 17, starting at 12:00 p.m., postal workers whose jobs are at risk because of the closure of the 300 St. Paul St. Mail Processing Plant will publicly launch the “Operation Transparency” campaign. Canada Post has been given two months to reveal its strategic planning documents, failing which it will be faced with escalating non-violent actions, which may include civil disobedience.

Under the theme “Green Light to Moya Greene,” CUPW members across the country will ask the Canada Post President to reveal plans for our public post office. In Quebec City, members will be wearing green to symbolize the green light being given to Canada Post (after all, Friday is St. Patrick’s Day).

In another symbolic gesture, workers will be sending a clear message to the public using green garbage bags. Also, a letter to Moya Greene printed on green paper will be signed on the spot.

Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) President Deborah Bourque, National Vice-Presidents George Floresco and Denis Lemelin, and Quebec Regional Officer Monique Allard are available for face-to-face or telephone interviews, from now until Friday at 3:00 p.m.
