June 8, 2006 - 18:52 RSMC / Letter June 6, 2006 Moya Greene Dear Ms. Greene: Today, I appeared before the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates. Members of this committee are extremely concerned about rural mail delivery. They repeatedly expressed their frustration, and the frustration of their constituents, with the suspension of delivery on routes where CUPW members are using their right to refuse unsafe working conditions under the Canada Labour Code. As you know, the corporation does not have to switch all households on a route to general delivery or community mailboxes, if there are one or more unsafe delivery spots on a route. I explained this to committee members. I also told them that CUPW is absolutely committed to finding solutions that keep the mail arriving at rural homes, without risking the lives of rural mail carriers. I would like to suggest that we meet immediately to discuss rural delivery. We need to develop solutions to problems and a process that prevents similar problems from occurring in the future. I am confident this can be done. I look forward to hearing from you on this matter. Yours truly,
c.c.: CUPW NEB
