October 1, 2007 - 16:09 Organizing / Leaflet The basics The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is conducting a national campaign to organize transport services drivers who work for Canada Post. This includes drivers in: The issues The union has been talking to drivers working for Canada Post and we’ve heard your issues: • low wages The plan Here’s the plan. Right now you and all the other drivers transporting and delivering mail for Canada Post are spread out across the country working for hundreds of small companies. This means it’s hard to make real improvements in working conditions. Negotiating a separate contract for each group just doesn’t work! But this would all change if every driver working in transport services for Canada Post could negotiate with one voice as employees of Canada Post. You see, we think you really work for Canada Post. After all, they dictate plenty about how you do your work. The process Now there’s a way to prove Canada Post is really the boss – through the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), which regulates the work you do. CUPW intends to argue with the CIRB that you all work for Canada Post and should be able to negotiate with a common voice. But first we need you to join CUPW. This will show that CUPW represents a majority of drivers working for Canada Post. Then we can fully fight for your rights!
