Charter challenge launched

On October 16th, allies Carmela Hutchison of the Disabled Women’s Network and Barry Thorsteinson of the National Pensioners’ Federation joined CUPW and Paul Cavalluzzo to announce CUPW’s application to the Federal Court. We maintain that cutting door-to-door delivery violates the Canada Post Corporation Act and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Our application says that Canada Post does not have jurisdiction on its own to withdraw door-to-door delivery from people, and further that doing so disproportionately harms vulnerable groups in our population, particularly seniors and people with disabilities. Since the media conference, more allies are now coming forward to join us in the action and the application will be filed when the list of applicants is finalized.
