Is your workload unmanageable? Do you suffer from work-related stress? Is your work causing physical and emotional stress? A lifetime of overwork and under appreciation is neither acceptable nor sustainable. It’s time to make a change. We need talk about overwork and overburdening and all the stresses that come with it.

Postal workers have many stories and it is time to share them. It is through sharing our stories that we will realize that we aren’t alone in this fight.

CUPW has released three new videos that tell the story of workplace stress created by overwork at Canada Post. They speak of hurting bodies, family stress, and general exhaustion. However, they only tell a small part of what people who process and deliver mail experience.

For many, these videos provide snapshots about life at Canada Post.  We are hopeful that these videos will be watched by many. Share them with other postal workers, family members, and our friends and allies.

You might see yourself and the type of work you do represented. You may do different work but feel equally stressed. The result is the same. Taking advantage of anyone for trying to do a good job cannot be acceptable under any circumstances.

Locals are encouraged to show the film and conduct strategy meetings to discuss overwork and improve working conditions. We urge everyone to participate and help develop solutions to workplace stress.

Telling our stories is only a first step to claiming justice and dignity at work. It confirms we are not alone and reveals that we can do something about it.

Not Alone

We are not alone. We have community allies. We have municipal friends. We have hard working volunteer stewards servicing the membership in the workplace. To change this we need you. Workers did not win workplace rights by requests and wishful thinking. The coming months will test our resolve but also offer the tantalizing possibility of a better workplace.

A Better Life

One thing is for sure, we want our bodies to last into old age without further damage. A good service should also result in a good life, both at work and at home.

Let’s turn this around.
