The Canadian Union of Postal Workers commend the land defenders in Wet’suwet’en territory for their brave and noble stand against greed and destruction. We condemn the RCMP for trespassing on unceded territory and intimidating land defenders there. Costal Gaslink wants to build a 670 km pipeline through their territories and a pristine wilderness. Once again, land is given away to corporations to enrich shareholders and divide communities.

February is a time to raise awareness of the Black History in our country and around the world that has been historically overlooked, minimized, ignored, or erased. TORONTO - The Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) today heard final arguments from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) and Foodora Inc. in a case that will set precedents for gig workers in Ontario. As they fight to defend their defined benefit pension plan, CUPW supports Unifor 594 members, who are locked out of the Co-op refinery in Regina since December 5. The central issue for the workers at the refinery is protecting their defined benefit (DB) pension plan. We fight hard to protect our pension, and we all know how it feels to have it threatened. Co-op made a promise not to switch workers from the DB plan to a defined contributions plan (which puts the risk on the worker instead of the employer), but they’re going back on their word and asking to end the DB plan.

The offer, made on a without prejudice basis, included the issues discussed at the previous GMMs, such as wage increases in the years after Bill 148 that would see Communications Officers back on par with the wages of an ACP; an increase to annual leave entitlements; payout of unused Education Allowance; introduction of a Temporary Employee Supplement; addressing the unilateral change made by the employer to the designation of SCOs and the payment of the responsibility premium; and, finally, addressing the LTD premiums by joining the HANS LTD plan.
