Statement

On October 26, 2009, the employer advised the Union that all employees who are hired by Canada Post on or after November 1, 2009 and who later meet the eligibility criteria will be required to pay for 100% of the premiums for the retiree dental plan. In addition, effective November 1, 2009, all employees who are hired by Canada Post on or after November 1, 2009 who are residents of British Columbia (BC) will no longer be reimbursed for the BC provincial Medical Insurance Plan Premium (Medical Services Plan of British Columbia) once they retire. The employer is violating the provisions of the collective agreement and/or the relevant laws and regulations.

Corrective Steps Requested

The Union requests a statement to the effect that the employer has violated the collective agreement and/or the relevant laws and regulations by modifying the retiree dental plan and discontinuing the reimbursement of the BC provincial Medical Insurance Plan for retirees. The Union also requests that the employer be ordered to abandon its attempt to implement changes and/or withdraw the changes it is proposing to implement as of November 1st, 2009, as indicated in the letter dated October 26, 2009 addressed to the Union. The Union reserves the right to amend this grievance and request any additional corrective action.
