On or about July 28, 2010, the Corporation informed CUPW of its decision to definitely close the postal outlet located at 1479 Youville Drive, in Ottawa. Since that date, the Corporation has been directing the customers of this outlet to privately-operated post offices. As a result, work belonging to the bargaining unit will be done outside the unit. In so doing, the Corporation is violating the provisions of Appendix "I" and Appendix "T" of the Urban Unit Collective Agreement.
Corrective Steps Requested
That the Corporation rescind its decision to close the postal outlet located at 1479 Youville Drive, in Ottawa, and that it abide by the provisions of Appendix "I" and Appendix T' of the Urban Unit Collective Agreement.
If, when this grievance is disposed of, the postal outlet has already been closed, CUPW requests that it be reopened forthwith, either in the same premises or somewhere located near 1479 Youville Drive, with the same services as were previously provided to the customers of the postal outlet. Furthermore, that the Corporation make a commitment or that an arbitrator issue an order to the effect that the postal outlet shall remain open and provide the same range of services to customers as it did previously, so long as Appendix "I" remains in effect and the requirements of Appendix "T" have not been met.
In addition, CUPW requests that the employees affected by these violations of the collective agreement be compensated for any loss of wages or any other damages suffered, all with interest. CUPW reserves the right to request any other additional corrective action.
