On December 7, 2012 Canada Post announced its intent to implement mandatory security screening for all employees, as set out in a “Practice Regarding Security Screening of Personnel.” Under this process, the employer would subject employees to criminal record checks and, in some instances, fingerprinting and credit and solvency checks.
On December 11, 2013, Canada Post announced large rate hikes and sweeping changes to public postal service, including a decision to take away home mail delivery and force 5 million households to use community mailboxes (CMBs).

Bloodied, but unbowed, CUPW members from coast to coast to coast are feeling the impact of postal transformation and Canada Post’s cuts. Perspective asked activists in every Region about their experience in the workplace. Here’s what they had to say:
Further to the arbitration and arbitrator Burkett’s decisions on the two-bundle delivery method, CUPW and Canada Post agreed to carry out a joint and independent ergonomic study on the two methods for carrying mail that are supported by Canada Post and used by letter carriers in post offices that have undergone postal transformation since 2010. The two methods are: (1) holding the manually-sorted and sequenced mail bundles together in one hand, and (2) holding the manually-sorted and sequenced mail bundles in the hand and across the forearm.
This year has been very difficult for us. We have been attacked by Canada Post and the Government, but we fought back. We would like to thank all the locals for their hard work, for public events, and for cavassing across the country. Everyone has been working hard; thank you!
An initial decision had established that the collective agreement, as extended by the Act to Provide for the Resumption and Continuation of Postal Services (C-6) as of February 1st, 2011, was also in effect during the strike and lockout period. However, the arbitrator specified that the application of provisions relied upon to support a grievance must not result in any absurd, inequitable or unreasonable situation, or render unlawful any act committed legally at the time when the collective agreement was no longer in effect.
November 26, 2014 OTTAWA - Canada Post is reporting yet another profit in its third quarter and expects to end the year with a surplus. The union representing postal workers says the profits show that Canada Post can stay successful without eliminating home delivery.
