2019-2023/103

There are currently two members of the St. John’s Local who have been confirmed to have contracted COVID-19 and three presumptive cases.

Other members have been tested and are currently in self-quarantine as a precaution. Our thoughts are with them and we send our best wishes to them and their loved ones at this time. We wish everyone who is affected a quick and full recovery.

Canada Post Corporation suspended delivery in St. John’s for Tuesday March 24 and today, Wednesday March 25, 2020.

The St. John’s mail processing plant is also closed indefinitely and a complete cleaning of the facility is being done. All employees working at the plant have been sent home while awaiting further instructions.

CUPW National, Regional, and Local representatives have been in continuous discussions with Canada Post, working to ensure that all aspects of health and safety are addressed by CPC and that the welfare of employees and the public be the number one priority governing all decisions.

We wish to acknowledge the hard work of the Local Executive and the Health and Safety Committee, as well as that of the members. We are all in this together.

We will keep you informed of all developments as they occur. CUPW would like to offer its sincere appreciation for healthcare workers and other essential community members who are supporting the members in  St. John’s and all of us all during this time.
